Mercedes-AMG F1-Powered Hypercar: Engine, Power, and Price Details
Mercedes-Benz has been playing up its ?dream cars? theme of late, and we now know it?s twisting up the dial on those dreams to hyper?as in hypercar. We talked to head of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers at Mercedes’ pre-show gala ahead of the Paris auto show, where we gleaned exclusive details on Affalterbach?s proposed F1-powered rocket.
Among the compelling details, Moers filled us in on what will power Germany?s newest hypercar: ?We?re going to use the powertrain of the Formula 1 car. We?re going to use Formula 1 technology like it is. We have to adapt it, but it?s going to be the 1.6-liter V-6,? the AMG boss said referring to the hybridized and turbocharged powertrain (pictured below) that Mercedes currently uses to race at the highest level. Autoblog further reports that the car will sport active aerodynamics and feature output levels expected to be in the 1000-hp range?all fed to the rear wheels?while the engine’s redline will fall between 10,000 and 11,000 rpm. If there were any doubts about how much will translate from the track to the street, Moers was very clear with us: ?We?re not talking about ?inspired by,? it?s going to be that engine. It?s the power pack, the batteries?it?s the most efficient engine I know of in terms of dealing with thermal losses.? He added that while the production hypercar?s engine would have slightly decreased efficiency in that regard, it will remain the most efficient one he knows of.
