Nissan takes orders for more potent GT-R
Nissan has opened order books for the latest version of its GT-R, with more power and revised styling heading the changes.
Prices have also been announced for the 2017 version of the car, which made its debut at the New York Motor Show in March. Entry level Pure versions start from £79,995, an increase of £1,965 over the current version.
Core to the upgrades on the new GT-R is a 20bhp power increase to the 3.8-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, which now offers 562bhp and 470lbft of torque, put through a dual-clutch six-speed transmission and all-wheel drive.
Technical changes include an increase in boost pressure and individual cylinder timing of the ignition, previously only applied to the race-bred GT-R NISMO variant and aiding efficiency alongside performance. Nissan adds that mid-range acceleration is improved at rpm speeds above 3200rpm, replacing the cast-iron liners of the cylinder bores with plasma spraying aids friction, weight loss, cooling, power output and fuel efficiency, while a new titanium exhaust is added with more efficient temperature management and routing through a NACA duct on the car?s underside.
According to the GT-R?s creators the styling changes are almost entirely aimed at improving the car?s aerodynamics. They include a redesigned bumper, daytime running lights, and a new matte chrome finish ?V-motion? grille, reflecting Nissan?s latest design signature.
