More power, new name for Boxster
Porsche has unveiled its facelifted Boxster, which includes new flat four-cylinder turbo petrol engines in its line-up.
The two-seat roadster, the latest generation of a model first launched two decades ago, is now known as the 718 Boxster, reviving a classic title in Porsche?s history dating from the late 1950s.
The powertrain line-up ranges across the new 2-litre 295bhp engine, and in the S model a 2.5-litre unit of 344bhp. Both are 35bhp more powerful than their predecessors with fuel economy improvements of up to 13 per cent, the S using a variable geometry turbine which Porsche says is the only example in a turbo petrol production car.
Revised suspension settings and uprated brakes are part of the revamp, while visually the car has undergone extensive modifications, with apparently only the bootlids, windscreen and powered roof of the previous version being retained. The new look is more sculpted, with a wider nose design, larger air intakes, Bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running lights. The wheel arches are redesigned, as are the side sills, larger side air intakes added and the rear given a wider presence. A new design of 19-inch wheel completes the visual effect with 20-inch versions on the options list.
Similarly the inside gains a new design with the brand?s latest Porsche Communication Management (PCM) touchscreen-based infotainment and connectivity as standard. The navigation module is on the options list.
Order books are now open for the 718 Boxster, prices st...
